Country to the City

I’m just a country gal in a big city :)

Kiddie Kitchens November 9, 2006

Filed under: General Life, Parenting — countryfan @ 11:42 pm

So my brother called me today, and he was telling me about how he wanted to send some money for Abby this Christmas. and he asked me what she’d like…since he wanted to know how much to send. And then we got into a conversation about the little kiddy kitchen I had when I was a kid. My kitchen was pretty awesome. Okay, so it didn’t have any noises or anything like that- but it came with food, cooking utensils, pots and pans…and a full foldaway rolling kitchen. It was made by Hasbro (I think) and it was called A La Carte Kitchen. I LOVED that kitchen. It was awesome. Eventually, it got so old that parts started to break off- so it ended up being put out for the binmen…I remember crying the day I watched it being crushed up by the dustbin lorry :(

Anyway, the point of this post is that Miss Abby is getting a kiddie kitchen from Uncle Steve for Christmas. It’s made by Fisher-Price and it’s called Grow With Me Kitchen. I’m looking forward to seeing it tomorrow- I’m going to take a drive over to Toys R Us so I can check it out before buying it…that way if I don’t like it I can buy something different. This is the kitchen…looks nifty, no? :D

And then when Abby gets older, it transforms into this kitchen:

All I can say is…Heeeeeeee :D

Still Alive… November 6, 2006

Thanks to Elizabeth, I am here again. I have phases where I forget about this place :(

It’s getting really cold here, I can’t turn up the heating anymore, and the apartment is still cold. I think that the heat is escaping through the minute cracks in the windows…bah :( i saw someone wearing Crocs the other day in the freezing cold…and they wern’t even wearing socks with them :o Are people crazy now? Does living in WI make you automatically crazy? It’s quite possible since a few of my friends seem to not have all their marbles in their heads :p

My friend Dave has started taking me, Nick and Abby out every Wed to this mall near me so Abby can play in the indoor play area they have there. With our apartment seeming to be getting smaller by the minute, Abby needs the space to run around. We usually go to Ponderosa or Old Country Buffet before hand, so she also needs to run off some of that food :p It also give me and Nick the chance to wander around the mall and buy whatever we need without Abby bugging us for stuff every two seconds. She’s a nightmare to take shopping, she’s always pulling at stuff..she broke a glass vase the last time we went…so that was the end of that :p

I’ve been making more food recently too, I made chicken pot pie that other day and shared half with the neighbour, and then tomorrow I’m going to be making gingebread cookies. I got some Jello Jigglers cutters free with the Jello I bought, and they’ll make excellent cutters for making smaller cookies for Abby…so I’ll use them for two purposes…you can never have too many cookie cutters :)

Yesterday, me and Abby were invited to a bridal shower. Abby upstaged the poor bride-to-be by being her usual cute, good self. Everyone complimented me on how well-behaved she was for her age (Abby’s 19 months now), and I felt very proud indeed. My friend forgave me though for the upstaging- she adores Abby and the little Miss could do no wrong in her eyes…if she only knew…:P

Convinced September 28, 2006

I’m pretty convinced that I’m pregnant now. I’m about 12 days late on my monthly cycle, I’ve started breaking out in places that I don’t usually, I’m eating like a horse, my boobs are sore and I keep having weird cravings for cornbread. I ate it with cheese today. Weird. I’m still going to give it till next Tuesday and then I’ll tell Nick. I hated telling him last time, and this time I’m dreading it even more. But for some weird reason, I’m really excited about being pregnant again. I guess I just like the thought of something growing inside of me and buying cute little baby outfits again.

If I am pregnant, I’ll announce it to everyone at my birthday party on the 8th. I announced it at a party last time, and it always seems the best way. Well, I find it’s the best way :p

I may be pregnant again. I’ve got sore boobs and the only time that ever happened before was when I was pregnant with Miss Abby. I’ll give it a week, and then I’ll have more news for you. Looking after two toddlers doesn’t sound like my idea of fun….:o

It’s Been A While… September 1, 2006

Sorry for dissapearing. I have no clue where I left off. I’ll just tell you what’s been happening recently…

- Abby’s getting more chatty as the days go by.

- My life gets suckier as the days go by.

- My weight goes up that little bit more as the days go by.

- I need to stop with ‘as the days go by’. Somebody stop me. NOW.

So Abby is now saying the following words:

hi, hey, hiya, bye, buh-bye, hah, cookie, yummy, nummy, yum, num, juice, shoes, keys, kitty, teddy, mama, mommy, dada, daddy, abby, baby, hat, cap, me, nose, hair, ear

That’s quite a lot. And suppodly she’ll know around 100 words by her 2nd birthday. Which is in 6 MONTHS now! OMG, it’s gone so quick. It’s already been half a year since her birthday. Damn.

I’ve been sitting in front of this friggin computer since about 9pm. I need to move my ass and do something, other than put Abby’s toys away. I also need to go through her clothes and get rid of a bunch at the rummage sale that the block is having next weekend. Her drawers are stuffed full, I can barely close them. Sucks.

I need a haircut. It’s looking all nappy and ratty. I cannot count the split ends anymore.

Pirates and Beaches July 1, 2006

We went to the beach today. Abby got to tryon her new swimsuit for the first time this year, she looked cute in it. Doesn’t like the lake much though. I don’t think it was the temperature, she just started crying when the waves were washing over her little feet. That’s another thing to add to my ‘things Abby is scared of’ list. Pah :-P

And good news! I have my purse back! Complete with passport, iPod, house keys, one dead cellphone (that I now have to return to the insurance company) and a wad of cash! That was a nice surprise…I had $15 in there! I’ve been thinking about all evening what I could spend that on….after going through so much stress recently with my parents stressing me out and then losing my purse…I deserve something very nice indeed. Of course, I can’t buy much with $15, I just fancy something like a nice photoframe or maybe a $15 iTunes card for some new toons. Hmm…..*puts on thinking cap*

Anyhoo, have to get t bed. Footie is on in the morning and we have to be at BBC for 10 am. I am going to have to kick my brother to get him out of bed :-P

And now comes the Pirates part. I cannot wait until POTC2. So I made a new wallpaper. Feel free to use it ;)

Mommy Friends June 28, 2006

Filed under: General Life, Parenting — countryfan @ 9:28 pm

I seriously wish that I had some mommy friends I could hang out with. There’s Jennie, but she lives too far away. And then there’s Jill who’s due in September, but no baby yet. Then there’s Sarah who lives in Ireland. I just get sick of sitting on my tukcus all day with Abby. I go to the park, and I see other moms there but nobody really my age. I have Rhonda who I ask for advice, but she’s my mom’s age and she has grandkids.

Sigh. I hate living in an area where I don’t really know anyone my age. Everyone with kids round here is older than me :(

It’s been a while… June 13, 2006

We didn’t have the internet for the last few weeks :(

Abby is now walking very good, still has no teeth :( but can say a few words now! She says “giggle”, “wiggle”, “tickle”, “yay”, “hey”, “hi”, “yummy”, “nummy”, “yum”, “mmm”, “mommy”, “daddy”, “ow” and “no”…as well as the usual “mama” and “dada”. So I’m pretty impressed. She also figured out recently how to take all her clothes off (including the diaper)- which is annoying when it’s a cooler evening and they still wake up in the morning butt naked :( I didn’t think that kids could figure out half this stuff till they were a few months older. Maybe we have a smart toddler on our hands? Heheh :)

My parents and my brother Steve will be here in a week! Cannot wait to see them, especially my brother. They’re bringing some food goodies and also some World Cup goodies (I asked for a mini kids-sized England shirt for Abby :) )

Mothers Day 2006 May 15, 2006

Filed under: General Life, Parenting — countryfan @ 6:30 pm

My second Mothers Day. I actually enjoyed this one a little more, because Abby was more responsive and actually gave me a kiss on my cheek (even if it was wet and sloppy) :-P We went out for dinner with Nick's mom and sister…and Nick paid for everything, aww I love having a husband like that :D I had the Shrimp Capallini and it was good, but the shrimp was a little bit over cooked. Ah well, the dessert made up for it (Baileys Cheesecake). I felt like I was going to puke for the rest of the evening…I think I stuffed my belly too full…oops! :-P

I got a lovely card and a half dozen yellow roses from Nick, and a card and a photo album of Abby over the last year from his family. It was a nice day. Then we came back home, changed into our PJ's and sat around watching TV for the rest of the evening :D

Yawn! May 3, 2006

Filed under: General Life, Parenting — countryfan @ 1:34 am

I've been so tired recently, I have no clue what is wrong with me :( I got up this morning around 9ish and got Abby up after she woke up twice with teething problems. My poor little girl, I really wish I could break those teeth through for her…she's having a tough time with it all (yup, still no teeth yet :( ) Luckily, her sleep problems have vanished again. Sure, she bounces up and down in her crib when we put her down for sleep and starts throwing her toys out…but I've discovered that if I just leave her in her crib- she settles down eventually. My mum told me that it's not a good thing if you attend to their every beck and call..it makes them realise that they can wake up anytime of the night and you'll come running. I am truly glad that I learned that lesson a while ago, I would be up five times a night with her otherwise :( I only have to get up about once a night now, give her some tylenol and rub some baby orajel on her gums…and she goes straight back to sleep. I guess I'm lucky :D

I still have a ton of housework to do, so I have to get onto that. Yeah, I know it's early in the morning…I barely sleep and get by on about five/four hours a night. I'm used to it now. If I was to just sit in front of the TV, I'd soon fall asleep. So I keep myself busy (housework, playing on the GameBoy, baking..etc)

My new discovery of the day, Renuzit air freshners from Walmart. $1 a pop and they work great (the main thing is they get rid of the stench of diapers in Abby's room and the stench that J leaves in the bathroom…lol :-P )
