Country to the City

I’m just a country gal in a big city :)

What a busy day! April 28, 2006

Wow, I don't think I've ever done so much in one day before! :)

To start with, i set my alarm for 7am and I thought that would have been plenty of time to get myself ready and get Miss Abby ready too…oh…it would have been but Abby decided she was going to wake up at 4.30am instead, yep you read correctly..4.30am! :( So having gone to bed at midnight and got four and a half hours sleep made me kinda groggy for the majority of the morning. We caught the bus at around 8.45am and made it to the courthouse around 9.15am. So we had some time to kill…so I took Abby down to Borders and we sat in the children's book area and I read her some books (Spot, Sesame Street, etc…) There was a really great one I found about waking up in the morning, so I might have to go back sometime and get that :) Eventually we got back up to the courthouse and went inside for the oath ceremony. All I will say is that it's a big anti-climax compared to all the years of paperwork. And that Jennie and her family are very nice people…her father-in-law is a riot! Wish my father-in-law was that great! :D Abby was also very good the whole morning, she yawned a lot and rubbed her eyes..but refused to go to sleep :-P I had to shush her a couple of times for making noises, but she was very well behaved :D

And then this afternoon, we went to the Picture People at the mall and we had Abby's pictures taken. It actually worked out cheaper than Sears (which was hard to believe at first!) and we joined some kind of a membership program, so we'll go back there for her Christmas photos and also her 2nd birthday photos. She didn't nap at all this afternoon, so I was most surprised that the photographer could get her to smile at all! My girl's a trooper, just like her Mum :D I've also discovered that Abby loves the camera and she's very photogenic…I'm very lucky. This is the pose that we ended up buying, she had several taken..but this one was our favourite :D

A very busy week… April 25, 2006

This week I've got a pretty hectic schedule. On Thursday, I have two things to do- I'm going to be supporting Jennie in her citizenship oath ceremony (that's at 10am) and then later me and J are going to be taking Abby to the photographers to have her photos taken. My parents gave her $130 for a birthday present and told us that they wanted us to spend it on some professional photos as a birthday gift to her. I thought that was pretty nice :) Then on Friday, we have a fish fry with J's mom and sister. I like getting out with Abby. I used to hate it because I thought it was such a hassle, but now it's quite enjoyable since she's a lot more interested in everything. She loves to watch the traffic going by and looking at the people she doesn't know. It's a lot of fun for her, I think :-P

I've been doing a lot of house cleaning recently, because J has decided that we're going to have a big cookout on Sunday and invite some friends over. It's going to be a lot of fun, because we really don't have that many people over very often. The last people we had over was when we had my baby shower last April :-P

Cake and Bratwurst April 21, 2006

I've been pretty busy over the past few days. Yesterday Abby had her doctor's appointment, so we had to go to that. And then today I've been busy with the forum…and I've got a ton of housework to do. AYF has really picked up since poor Ace got eliminated :( It sucks as it was one of his best performances of the competition and he got kicked off the show. Stupid Pickle with her fake girlyness :(

And then for dinner tonight we had bratwurst on the grill with a piece of cake for dessert. I love making cake :-P

I just got the last pair of tickets to the ACM’s in May :D I’m a Associate Member of the Academy of Country Music, and you have to be a member to buy tickets. Wish I could be a professional member. Maybe a few more years doing the rounds in the bars with Merle and my petition to join will convince them :D

But anyway, I get to meet the stars, go to the awards show and float around like someone important. Another chance to meet Ran and maybe even Carrie…or and Gretchen Wilson and Tim McGraw, and KEITH URBAN!!! Holy cow! *fans self*. I’m gonna start looking for a very nice fancy dress to go in and J’s looking for a tux…so we’ll look like we’re supposed to be there :) J hates country music with a passion, but I think he’s worried that some good-looking cowboy is going to run away with me into the sunset…(yeah J, and he’s going to have a white horse too :-P )

I am going to be very broke though for a long time after this, the tickets cost me $600 for the pair. They had better be good seats :-P

Running in Circles… April 15, 2006

So just when I thought that Abby was better, she throws everything back up at me. I scream like a little girl (I’m very squeamish when it comes to those things :( ) So, tomorrow, she’s going to be back on Pedialyte, bananas and saltine crackers. Yummy :-P

Me and J are better though, but after this episode, we decided that we’re not going to be eating any dairy products. Which is killing me, because I really want to eat some cheese and make up homemade mac n cheese…*stomach grumbles*. I’ve been living off mainly saltine crackers, chicken noodle soup, Gatorade and iced water. How bland :-P I’d kill for a nice pizza from Pizza Hut or some crab rangoon from Chopstix. Argh…

Last thought of the day, how could Ace be in the bottom three again on Wednesday?! I seriously don’t get it. Damn those stupid 12 year old girls voting for Kellie Pickler.Pick Pickler?! More like Kick Pickler….bwahahaha :-P Seriously, how can anyone resist this gorgeous face?! :D

And also we have to say goodbye to Bucky. It’s sad really, as I really liked Bucky. He was beginning to grow on me and I loved his version of “Fat Bottomed Girls”. I was really entertained by him :D We’ll miss ya Bucky. Supposedly, he’s heading to Nashville next after he’s been back in NC for a while. Cool. Can’t wait to see him knock the stuffing out of Miss Country Princess CU. I know I used to like her, but after she took all of Miranda’s awards from her at the CMA’s…I am kinda pissed. Miranda has been in the business much longer than her. Anyway, less whining. Bye Bucky, it was a pleasure while it lasted ;)

Yuck… April 13, 2006

Me and J have come down with exactly what Abby's just getting rid of :( All I've been doing is drinking water and lying on the couch watching daytime TV. I feel gross :(

Sick Babies April 12, 2006

Filed under: American Idol, General Life, Parenting — countryfan @ 12:12 am

Sometimes I wonder where I get the physical and mental strength from to deal with my life. Just when you think you’re getting into a nice regular routine, it gets flipped upside down and things just go mental.

Today Abby was sick. Sicker than a dog, my poor baby. I go into get her up this morning and she’s lying there on her back smiling at me holding a soft toy of hers. And she’s got these orange lumps in her hair :( At closer inspection, I discover that she was sick during the night and it’s all over her blanket and the sheets, and all over herself. So that meant bathtime :-P So I stripped her off her pj’s and took off her diaper and ran her a bath. I cleaned her up and shampooed her hair while she played with her various bath toys. Afterwards, I got her dressed and me thinking that she was allergic to the carrots I gave her for dinner the night before, I fed her breakfast. She seemed fine afterwards, playing with her toys and walking around with a big smile on her face. Then she started getting cranky, so I lay her down for a nap. What a mistake that was. Half an hour later, she starts crying and I go to her and she’s thrown up AGAIN. I call in J and he helps me. He strips her down and changes her diaper. I call the doctor and I discover that it’s probably a stomach bug (Me and J thinks she picked it up the last time we were at the doctor’s office- damn those toys :( ) She’s got it all in her hair again, so I half hang her over the bathtub so I can wash her hair again. Then after all that and she’s dressed again, J makes a grocery list and picks up some Pedialyte for her. All the time he’s gone, she’s crying her little lungs out at me and needs to go to sleep. She fights it all the time J is out because her belly is empty and she’s hungry. I can’t feed her anything though. Eventually, around 8pm, I lay her down for bed and she falls asleep straight away. She’s been waking up every two hours though, so I change her diaper and give her some more Pedialyte. It feels like she’s a baby again :(

But apart from all that, everythings been pretty normal today. Watching American Idol (which really sucked tonight and I think the producers are trying to get rid of Ace :( ), making tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for me and J, and trying to get rid of my usual headaches with Motrin. I tell ya, I’ve never had so many headaches in my life since Abby came along :-P

A quote I just found on a webpage:

“Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways – Chardonnay in one hand – chocolate in the other – body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming “WOO HOO, What a Ride”

American Idol Update April 11, 2006

According to USA Today, Ace is going to be singing We Will Rock You. Oooh, I am so happy that it’s not going to be Bohemian Rhapsody, I was scared of the Constantine comparisons :( Bring on 7pm :D

ETA: J forgot the cat food so ended up feeding Mercia and Peanut tuna. Ha. I bet they thought they were in kitty heaven or something :D

Blah, blah, blah… April 10, 2006

Filed under: General Life — countryfan @ 8:13 pm

So yesterday was a craptacular day. Me an J had yet another argument, and then he called me about two hours later to say he was sorry and that we needed to talk when he got home. He also told me that I needed to write down what he did that made me angry and then another list that said what we could do about it all. I really want this all to work too, but it’s kinda grating on my patience. So, I am waiting around in my pj’s until 3am until I decided to call it quits. I got into bed and shivered for a while, and sometime later I heard my cell phone ringing in the other room. I looked at the clock and saw that it was 7am. I guess that I must have eventually fallen asleep :) I got up and went to my cell phone to see who had called me- it was J. It was weird him not being next to me in bed. He told me that he was helping a work colleague fix the lanes and he’d be bringing home Mickey D’s..yay bacon, egg and cheese McGriddles! :D So I went back to bed and it was cold again, so I tried my best to fall asleep…which I did but only for about half an hour and then I woke up by the noise of bedroom door being opened. J came in brandishing the lists I’d wrote him and he was reading them in bed and afterwards, he kissed me and put his arm around me. And then whispered in my ear that my favourite was in the fridge for when I woke up :D I could then fall asleep properly for about an hour and a half- and then Abby woke me up and I got up and saw to her :p

Babies are truly the most fickle creatures. A few months ago, Abby actually liked carrots when I bought them for her in a jar from the grocery store…now I give her fresh carrots, boiled and in slices and she pulls a face and refuses to eat them >:( That made me mad. i went into another room and screamed at the top of my lungs. Afterwards, I came back to the kitchen where Abby was chewing on a teething toy that’s attached to her high chair , and fed her a jar of Gerber Lasagna dinner. And gave her three graham crackers to finish. Not that she deserved them ;)

And now the cats are getting pissy at me because I don’t have any cat food to feed them. J said he’d pick some up from the store on his way home from his friend’s house :)
